Research Candidates
Applicants from a variety of educational backgrounds may be accepted for training as research candidates. These applicants should have demonstrated research competence and plans for incorporating psychoanalytic perspectives in further research. Research candidates undertake personal psychoanalysis or psychoanalytic psychotherapy with an analyst or psychotherapist approved by the certificate program and participate in required curriculum.
After a suitable period of matriculation, research candidates may apply for full clinical training to further their research interests. Should full clinical training be offered on the basis of an assessment by the certificate program and the capacity of the PECC to offer such training, the Psychoanalytic Education Center of the Carolinas requests and may receive a waiver of the usual eligibility standards from the Board on Professional Standards of the American Psychoanalytic Association before the candidate may begin clinical training.
